Teaching will always be a great passion for me, as it is continuously challenging, exciting and rewarding. I have an excellent track record of forging very positive and mutually respectful relationships with both students and colleagues; this is owing to my sense of humour, hard work ethic and high levels of energy, creativity and motivation.
In the Summer of 2018 I taught English for Academic Purposes on a Pre-Sessional University course. The students were all Chinese students who were preparing for their MA in Finance. I developed numerous useful strategies whilst teaching these delightful students and I received a great deal of positive feedback, both from the students themselves and from my course tutor.
As an inspirational teacher with a 26-year record of being judged to be consistently 'outstanding' by line-managers and Ofsted Inspectors, I am proud of my track record and ready to use these skills and my wealth of experience in this field as an Online Teacher. I would delight in being a part of such an innovative new platform, enabling a large number of learners to access language courses.
I have always taken pleasure in the art of preparing engaging, fun, practical and challenging lessons and materials for my students, which meet the individual's needs. The constant adapting of materials to personalise the learning is very important to me, as I can immediately measure the impact in the classroom or with adult learners whom I currently mentor. I enjoy being very creative and imaginative in my approach to teaching, regardless of the age of the learner, as all learners need to engage in their learning and take ownership of it. It is important to provide learners with regular and constructive feedback, in a variety of forms, so that they can measure their own progress, be clear about their short and long- term targets and, importantly, to know and understand what they need to do to reach these. A key part of my work as a Lead Practitioner in Teaching and Learning has been to encourage my colleagues (myself included), to reflect on our practice and continuously strive to embrace new ideas and T&L strategies, to ensure that our students are taught in a more holistic manner, with clear life-long benefits.
I held the post of Head of Modern Foreign Languages in an outstanding school for 16 years. My range of subjects has been primarily German and French, with some English and Literacy which I have taught very successfully for 26 years from primary level to 'A' Level and adults. From 1990 to 1997 I taught German and French in British Forces' Schools in Germany, which was extremely rewarding, particularly as I fostered very positive and long-lasting friendships between our students and those in neighbouring German schools. My work there also gave me the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the country, culture and people. I also tutored a mixture of German, Turkish, Indian and Chinese speaking students in English, which they needed for work or study purposes.
I believe that I have a wealth of experience and energy which I can bring to this role as I have taught all age groups and am very adaptable, approachable, friendly and enthusiastic about languages. I have an empathy for learners of a foreign language and believe that this quality is essential with the teaching of international students.
In December 2018 I set up my own school, Yorschool, in which we provide Business German/ English lessons, as well as GCSE/A Level German and EFL. I work with school pupils, students, adults and global companies, online and face to face.
With kind regards
