I am an English and French tutor with over 5 years of experience in tutoring adults and children. My life-long passion for languages, academia and helping others to succeed has lead to me achieve a masters in English Literature as well as a degree in English Literature with French. I have recently passed the Cambridge certified CELTA course in London to improve my teaching methods and resources for speakers of other languages.
I have a welcoming, friendly and patient demeanour. I believe the first step to learning languages is to feel confident and comfortable enough to practice. Speaking and writing are two powerful forms of expression and I will always strive to make my students feel confident enough to express themselves, knowing that this confidence extends to all facets of their life. I find this particularly important for children, but still essential for adults. The first lesson is a complimentary consultation in which I assess their current level of literacy and discover their main aims. Knowing what level a tutee hopes to reach within a given timeframe helps to guide and motivate both myself and the student.
Above all, I believe that learning is fundamental to growth. Grasping a new language or improving the way that we use our language can be a powerful and creative tool that we carry for life, into both professional and personal relationships. I aim to improve my students' understanding of grammar, encourage their creativity and strengthen their vocabulary and fluency when speaking, listening, reading and writing.
I have been teaching English to students between KS1 and GCSE level in group sessions at a tuition centre as well as privately at higher levels on a one-to-one basis for over 5 years.
My adult tutees come from overseas and are keen to learn the language in order to communicate with confidence in their day-to-day lives.
For my younger students, I create fun ways to learn French as a new language or I provide speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises in order to improve their English skills and grades at school.
For my secondary school students, including those at GCSE level, I tailor-make the lessons to match the curriculum and adapt my approach according to their personal learning styles. This experience has provided me with a vast knowledge of the curriculum for English Language and English Literature.
For A-Level and Graduate students, I ensure to familiarise myself with the reading material and the exam board and mark scheme in advance. I encourage creatives to think outside of the box while helping them to maintain the required structure of academic writing. I focus on teaching them techniques to build essential essay-writing skills and improve their ability to analyse and interpret texts.
Before beginning a course of lessons, I offer a free consultation hour which helps me to fully understand and assess the needs of each student. Enhanced DBS checked.
