“This was a great aspirational session. The children were exposed to subject-specific vocabulary. An excellent balance between adult and child-led learning.”
- Feedback from a London primary school.
An alumni of the Royal College of Music in London, I was awarded a First Class Bachelor of Music (Honours) in 2017 and Master of Performance (Historical Performance) with Distinction in 2019. Supported by a Musicians' Company Lambert Scholarship, I studied classical guitar with Carlos Bonell and Chris Stell and theorbo with Jakob Lindberg.
Since coming to London in 2013, I have been teaching both privately and through The Music House for Children and Active in Music. I am familiar with the ABRSM syllabus, am able to work through the grades for those who wish to enter and have taught students ranging from age 5-60+, from beginners to more advanced levels. Whether the students’ goals are to take graded exams or just to play for their own leisure, I enjoy creating individual lesson plans and adapting to each individual.
I spent 6 years studying the Alexander Technique whilst at the Royal College of Music as well as taking private lessons in Timani with teachers from The Musicians' Health and Movement Institute in Oslo. I believe that a better awareness of the body helps us to play our instruments with much more ease and I use the knowledge that I have learned from these methods in my own lessons to help students develop their technique.
My passion for baroque music and regular work as a continuo player on theorbo is a unique skillset amongst classical guitar teachers. I find this immensely useful when teaching earlier repertoire such as pieces from lists A and B in the ABRSM syllabus.
Aside from teaching, I enjoy a busy performing career as a soloist, chamber musician and continuo player. I have performed in venues such as Centro Cultural Justicia Federal (Brazil), Große Universitätsaula Salzburg (Austria), Stockholm Concert Hall (Sweden), Shakespeare’s Globe, Royal Festival Hall, Hampton Court Palace, Queen’s Gallery (UK) and have played live on BBC Radio 3. Last year I was selected as a Handel House Talent Artist with the Handel&Hendrix House Museum.
As a teacher I am fully devoted to each student and believe everyone has the potential to learn.
I am currently looking for students so please don't hesitate to get in touch. I teach primarily from home and online but don't let this put you off asking if you are looking for a visiting tutor as I am always willing to discuss options (I am a keen cyclist).
