I am a professional pianist and an enthusiastic and dedicated piano teacher.
As a Royal College of Music graduate, I have a deep understanding of what great quality teaching is, having experienced it first-hand. Over the years I have taught multiple students of all ages, both privately and in specialised music schools. This has included significant teaching on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. Since I started teaching in 2011, my students have had 100% success rate in their ABRSM exams.
I am currently a tutor at the Junior Conservatoire of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I encourage and nurture students, unlocking their potential, motivating them to reach their highest level and preparing them for ABRSM (and other) exams, competitions and public performances. I am also studying for a PhD in Piano Performance at Cardiff University, in which I am an Assistant Teacher of the Piano Ensemble class.
I am highly committed to music and the arts, as well as to the education of children and young people. I am driven in my will to inspire and motivate students, regardless of whether they are preparing for a career in music or whether they are learning for enjoyment alone. Whilst teaching at all levels, I have always been careful to choose repertoire and technical work that would both challenge and encourage students in their development of technical and musical skills. I continually evaluate my teaching and assess the progress my students make adjusting my teaching approach as necessary.
I am an advocate for 'conscious practice', a style of practicing that is focused and goal-oriented, and which maximises the students' use of time. Not only I try to embody that in my own practice, I also convey it to my students to the best of my ability.
I am also concert pianist and have performed in many concerts in Europe and beyond. I have been a devoted performer ever since entering the National Conservatoire in Lisbon, having won prizes at competitions, performed in solo recitals and chamber music groups, as well as a soloist with orchestra several times. Most recently this has included a tour with the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra and a concert at St David's Hall, in Cardiff. I strive for the highest standards in my own practice and public performances.
By keeping myself active as a performer, I aim to not only inspire my students, but to also keep developing technically and musically. The more knowledge I have within my own practice and performing life, the better equipped I am to pass it on.
